Transmission Services

What is a transmission?

Your transmission is one of the most important parts of your vehicle, as this is what sends and regulates power from the engine to the tires.  Because most transmissions are made of almost 1000 moving parts, it requires some expertise to find and fix an issue.

The main component parts of your transmission are also known as the “gearbox”. And, as we all know gears are metal and their teeth work together in unison.  As metal on metal is always a bad idea, your transmission uses “transmission fluid” (oil) to keep these parts lubricated.

Most of the time when a problem with a transmission occurs it’s because of fluid issues.  Either the fluid has not been maintained and changed, has leaked, or has become contaminated in some way.

If you think you’re having transmission issues, bring it in for a diagnostic checkup, and lets prevent any issues before they become an issue.

COMMON TRANMISSION WARNINGS

Vehicles are getting more high tech, and computerized.  Don’t worry, we’ve invested in the best tools and technicians to keep you ‘Rolling Safely’.

How often should I service my transmission?

Each vehicle has manufacturers recommendations on when you should perform certain services.  We tend to follow these rules pretty closely, and know what models require what.  If you’re unsure, or cannot find your Manual, call us and we’re happy to let you know.

Transmission fluid though, as a general rule, should be changed flushed and changed every 50-60 thousand kilometers.

What happens in a transmission service?

Generally a manual transmission car may maintain more easily and simply require Fluid Flush and Replacement, but again sometimes a bit more challenging if we need to drop pans and get into filter replacements.  On automatic transmissions there’s a lot more intricacy.

Sometimes we’ll only have to flush and fill your fluid, and other times we may need to replace some gaskets, filters and more.

If you’re having particularly bad transmission issues, than we may have to go deeper into a disassembly, clean and replacement of parts.  Essentially a transmission rebuild.  We really don’t want to have to do that – and neither do you – so it’s always a better plan to keep on top of your vehicles maintenance.  That said, we’re still here if you need us!

How much does a transmission service cost?

That right there is the hundred dollar question.  It all depends on the service required, the make and model and a few other factors.  The best thing to do is to bring your vehicle in or give us a call to speak with one of our transmission specialists.
